McDonald’s introduced the happy meal in 1979 where they’d target small children. The main goal of happy meal was so buy a small meal at a lesser price plus you’d get a small toy with it which would excite children. McDonald’s is the world’s largest toy distributor. Fact – They sell 9,00,000 toys a day.
When obesity had become a huge issue especially in the United States Of America. McDonald’s sales had eventually fallen. So they came up with a healthier menu like salads, oatmeal, etc. They were forced to come with up a healthier menu when there was an increase in obesity rate around the world. Some of the healthiest items on the menu were Fruit ‘N Yogurt Parfait or Fruit And Oatmeal Parfait.
McDonald’s has come up with different variations of the menu. Like the dollar menu in the United States Of America which targeted low -income customers. With premium burgers which were only for a limited time. Customers buy these for a value meal or they wanna try something new on the menu.
McDonald’s releases a lot of holiday based item on their menu to attract their customers. They have also partnered with coke where both companies promote each other companies. Most of us know about the Monopoly McDonald’s where you’d buy a burger and you’d get exciting gifts. This generated sales as people would buy for exciting gifts.
All of us know the McDonald’s mascot Ronald McDonald the clown in McDonaldland with his friends Mayor McCheese, the Hamburglar, Grimace, Birdie the Early Bird and The Fry Kids. He is a CHO (Chief Happiness Officer ) of the company. In 2010 Corporate Accountability International, Boston wanted Ronald McDonald retired due to child obesity but they didn’t succeed.
Burger King and Wendy’s are introducing new meals regularly to compete with McDonald’s. Starbucks is also moving from a cafe to sell breakfast and lunch.
As of 2018, they had more than 16,000 locations worldwide. They release new meals regularly to compete with McDonald’s.
